After Effects Project
Please follow these guidelines when preparing your After Effects Project for submission.
Your project should be well-organized and easy to navigate. Use comments and marker labels where appropriate and name all files and folders clearly so that customers can easily customize your product to their needs. All file names, expressions, comments, and documentation must be in English.
Before saving your project, all open compositions should be closed except for the final render composition(s), and all render items should be cleared from the render queue.
All final render comps in your project must be square pixels and one of the following resolutions:
- 720p 1280×720
- 1080p 1920×1080
- 4K 3840×2160
The following frame rates are acceptable:
- 23.976 FPS
- 24 FPS
- 29.97 FPS
- 30 FPS
- 59.94 FPS
- 60 FPS
Project files should reside in a main root directory along with product documentation. All required video, image, and audio assets should reside in a project (Footage) folder. Image sequences should each have their own sub-folder. If your product contains different versions of the project file, for example one using third-party plugins and another using pre-rendered assets, they should be clearly labeled as such. Below is an example of an acceptable file structure:
It is common to include different types of assets to be distributed with your project file. Before submitting your product, be sure to collect all required assets(File > Dependencies > Collect Files)and include those in your final .zip file.
What Assets Can I Include?
Any assets you create yourself may be included in your product demo and download file. You may also use third-party assets in your product demo or download file, but only if you have the appropriate license to use and distribute the assets in that way.
No watermarked assets from another marketplace (Envato, Pond5, etc.) may be used in your product demo or included in the download file – however you may use non-watermarked assets provided you have the appropriate license.
You may use VFX Market watermarked assets in your product demo only if you have permission from the author of the asset you are using. You may not include VFX Market assets from another author as part of your download file. Please refer to our Terms of Service for more details.
Any assets which have been used in your product demo but which cannot be used in your final product should be replaced with a placeholder (Right-Click > Replace File > Placeholder)prior to saving your file.
Video assets can be provided as either Quicktime Movie or Image Sequence. The following formats are acceptable:
- Quicktime H.264
- Apple ProRes 4444, 422, 422 HQ, or 422 LT
- EXR, TGA, TIFF, PNG, or JPEG Sequence
We accept image assets in any format that is supported by Adobe After Effects.
Audio assets should be free of any watermarks and can be provided in the following file formats:
You may not distribute any third-party plugins with your product. If your product requires third-party plugins in order to work, youmustlist them in the product details.
Sometimes it is beneficial to distribute pre-rendered assets with your product so customers don’t need to use plugins. Before submitting your product make sure it complies with any third-party EULA’s.
An example of a plugin which does not allow pre-rendered assets to be distributed commercially is Element 3D fromVideo Copilot. If your product contains assets which require Element 3D, each customer who purchases your product must also own the plugin in order to use your product.
All After Effects products must include documentation which explains how to make the necessary changes. The following formats are acceptable:
After Effects products must include a preview video which shows the final render composition in its entirety. You may also include a walkthrough demonstration of how to use the product. Upload your video to YouTube and then enter the video URL in the Preview Video field on the product submission form.
Your final product for submission should be compressed using the .zip format. The file name should be the same as the product title using underscores for spaces between words. If you are offering different product variations to be sold separately, please also include the name of the variation in the file name (example: my_product_plugins.zip / my_product_prerendered.zip).
